Hilliker Letter March 2019

Hello from the Hillikers,

Spring Greetings!

As one practices Spanish, funny (and at times, embarrassing) moments are bound to occur. Here is a fun anecdote from our adventures learning Spanish.

When we first arrived in Guanajuato, Erin didn’t talk much outside of school or the house because speaking Spanish with new people felt daunting. And, getting the words out correctly sometimes seemed painful to the listeners. Recently, we were having coffee with a couple from our church, and he shared that when we first met, he thought Erin was possibly mute or didn’t have an ability to speak!! We thank the Lord for the improvements we’ve been able to make during our time here.

In the attached letter we mention an upcoming missions trip to Cabo. There is still some space available to join the team. The dates are June 7-14, 2019. We will be doing work projects at the clinic, diabetes information classes at night, and three medical outreaches. Volunteers with all abilities and skills are welcome. Let us know if you are interested and we can send an information sheet with more details.

Hilliker Letter February 2019

Hello from the Hillikers,

February has been another month of firsts. First time leading crafts in a retirement home. First time for Erin to travel solo in Guanajuato (she attended a Ladies’ meeting at church).  For the first time we have also realized how soon our time studying here will be completed. Only two and a half months remaining! It certainly has been a fruitful time. You continue to be a valuable part of this learning process. Thank you for praying with us and stepping through this journey alongside us.

Lynne and I are so grateful for each of you and your continued faithfulness to encourage, pray and support us.  Without you we could not be serving in San Vicente, Mexico and beyond.  Thank you.

This winter we have had several storms which have provided us with some much needed rain.  This past year the area was so short of water that many of the farms did not plant nearly all their acreage, so there was not a lot of work this past year.  Hopefully this rain will allow the farmer to plant more crops which will give people work next summer.

Attached is our latest newsletter to assist you as you pray for us and follow how God is working in the lives of people in San Vicente and beyond.

Greetings!

We praise God for all of His many blessings!  He truly has been at work in marvelous ways at La Esperanza.  Thank you!  You are a part of this work by coming to serve, praying, encouraging us, and/or giving financially!  In the newsletter, we share about more summer ministry and fall ministry.  Now, we understand that you are busy and spending time with your families, so feel free to read the Newsletter after Christmas!  We pray you are encouraged to see what God is doing!

Merry Christmas and God bless you!

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.  Fifteen of the last sixteen Thanksgivings have been spent in Mexico and it has been so much fun to see how the local church celebrates this special day.  We have loved the opportunity to attend their special service and be invited to join them in their USA traditional turkey dinner.  Great memories!

God continues to open new opportunities and we look forward to see how God will use us in the coming year.  It has been so interesting as we look back over our years in Mexico and see how God provided opportunities for a season and then the door closed to those opportunities but others doors opened.  As the local nation and culture change so does the way we do ministry.  However, the message remains the same

Thank you for your faithful prayers, encouragement, and support.  You are a vital part of the ministry in Baja and without you we could not continue to serve.  Attached is our latest newsletter so you know what God is doing in San Vicente.

We pray you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Feliz navidad y próspero año nuevo

Loreto Report November 2018

November 2018

Over the three days we were in the La Paz prison. During this event, there were 139 people who saw our doctors,dentists,and/or received reading or distance glasses. All of these people receiving more than one service – in fact there were a total of 336 services given.  Thank you so much for your prayers and financial support that help to make these outreaches such a success. No other group is now allowed to go into these prisons to do what we do – and this time over 40 people prayed to receive Christ into their lives!  And almost all of the others we saw asked questions and were prayed for. How wonderful is all this?! So your partnership with us in this worthwhile ministry is greatly appreciated!

Click on the link above to view many photos of exciting ministry moments at the prison!

Thank you!

Hello from the Hillikers,

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope that each of you had a wonderful holiday with time to enjoy family and friends, to eat good food, and most importantly, to give thanks. We can’t say enough how thankful we are for your encouragement, support, prayers, and your friendship! Thank you for continuing to “go” with us.

As December draws near, we are looking forward to time in the United States over the Christmas holiday. It’s hard to believe that the time is passing so quickly, and that our first leg of language school is almost complete. “El tiempo vuela cuando te diviertas!”

Please know how much we appreciate each of you. Thank you!!
