My Story:
As a young new believer I had dreams of someday being on the mission field.
Mexico had always been in my heart and so after completing my studies at Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma I headed back to Southern California.
I became involved with my church and served there for seven years under the Pastorate of Nancy Dufresne. I was released to serve in Ensenada, Mexico and after one year of serving at a local Bible Center I found Gabriel House, a rehabilitation center for the handicapped children of the Baja. My heart has always been towards children and orphanages and after much prayer I volunteered at the center. Needless to say my life has dramatically changed because of these dear ones. We have 35 children with various handicaps that include; HIV, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Autism. At the present time we have a staff of 28 Nationals that work 12 hour shifts, 2 days on and 2 days off.
What I do:
It is such a blessing for me to serve here at Gabriel House. Everyday is a new adventure with much to learn.
At the present time I am holding Bible Studies for the staff 2 times a week. When we first started only 3 were Christians, now, every one has accepted Christ as their personal Savior and are growing up into beautiful women of God.
I also live on the grounds here and I have 4 beautiful girls that I am responsible for.
T he first and oldest girl is Pilar. Pilar just turned five and weighs about 22 pounds. She has been diagnosed with Down Syndrome and is quite the character. She attends our pre-school daily where she loves to play with the other toddlers.
Next is Sophie. Sophie has spinal bifida and is being adopted by a wonderful American Family. She is 4 years old.
Lydia came to us when she was only 1 month old. She was born in prison where her Mother hid her pregnancy because of drug abuse.
She weighed 3 pounds at birth and today she is 17 months old and weighs in at 13 pounds. Because of complications at birth, Lydia suffers with epilepsy and blindness. A neurosurgeon told me that she would never feel human touch never know what is going on around her. We prayed for Lydia and she now feels us when we hold her. She is responsive and cries when you disrupt her daily schedule.
Next, and certainly not least is Chloe Ann. Chloe came to me at 3 weeks of age. Her Mother , diagnosed with AIDS left her at a hospital where she was tested positive with HIV. As soon as she got here we prayed for Chloe and she was instantly healed. We took her in for a check up and the local pediatrician said that she had a tumor behind her right eye. I prayed immediately and the next week I took her to an ophthalmologist who examined her and said, "This child is perfectly normal, she has never had a tumor in that eye!" Glory to God! His Word works.
