Loreto Weekend Report – March 30 – April 3, 2017

REPORT FOR WEEKENDER TEAM — March 30-April 3, 2017

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday we had more than 250 inmates in the La Paz State Prison ask for Bibles and New Testaments: we gave out over 100 Bibles, 150 New Testaments, and over 100 Gospels of John. We prayed with almost everyone who came to see one of our 4 doctors, our 3 dentists, or to get some glasses. We had over 25 workers with us – and there were over 50 inmates who gave their lives to the Lord – after which we sang together, ‘Hallelujah…, Hallelujah…’

On Sunday after 132 inmates had been through our 3-day Health Fair, we had a meeting with a large number of the prisoners, (with a few guards and staff also present). There had been an invitation given to the inmates to come and listen to Don explain why we had come, and to receive a gift bag from us, as well as the opportunity to receive a Bible.  (The gift bag included: a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap and a wash cloth.)

We had probably 200 men and 20 women come to this meeting, as I explained that we had come because we and many our friends love them… I went on saying, “Someone has lied to you… You need to ‘trust the evidence’ – there is more evidence for ‘Creation’ than there is for ‘evolution’…” I carried on, “…God was at the beginning…; He created everything for His purposes – including each of us; therefore at the end of our lives we can expect Him to be our Judge… Are you prepared to meet your Judge?  God offers you and us a pardon for all the wrongs we have all done; and He wants to give each of us better lives…  It is all written down for us in the Bible – if you would like to have one to read for yourselves, just ask for one as you come to receive a gift bag from us…” I went on explaining, “…the gift bag is small, but our friends have put them together for us to give to you, just to prove that we do love you…”

Loreto Report, March 2015

What a joy it was to work with the First Baptist Church in La Paz once again. This church has been established for many years, but they are busy planting more churches – so this month we were in one of the newer neighborhoods of La Paz… And each day they sent over 40 workers from the home church to help us. It was so wonderful to see the way they took on all the responsibilities – very encouraging!

We were also privileged to have Monica Avina fly down from Alta Loma, California to help us this past weekend.

Another encouragement was to see a few new faces at the church service that followed our Health Fairs on Sunday night – people who had been introduced to this church, and who had been impressed with the love of Christ shown to them, during our Health Fairs this weekend…

At each of our Health Fairs we give everyone a Gospel of John and make available free of charge, New Testaments and Bibles. We also we buy and then sell at reduced prices: Study Bibles, correspondence course materials, special Children’s Bibles, and other Christian books… And this month our Bible and book table was very popular! We’ve never sold as many Study Bibles at any other Health Fair. (How exciting it was to talk and pray with people who are wanting to walk closer with our Lord…)

If you would like to join us sometime and be a part of one of our Weekend’s of Health Fairs, we would encourage you to send us an email. (You don’t have to speak Spanish.) You could even come to Loreto and enjoy a few wonderful days of vacation before or after our Health Fairs…

If you’re not able to come and help us, please keep us in your prayers…, and also if you are able to help financially support this wonderful ministry, that too would be very much appreciated!

Thank you so much again for helping to make all of this happen. We do praise the Lord, for your partnership!

Loreto Report, February 2015

It was so wonderful to be working again with Dr. Robles – who started with us back in 2006, but has not been able to help us much since his move to La Paz in 2007. Also it was great to be in this church – they were so ready and able to counsel people. It was a very special weekend!

We really enjoy putting on these Community Health Fairs in churches throughout Baja Sur for at least three very good reasons: (#1) People who may not have much money are given free medial consultations and if needed free medicine to help with whatever is ailing them. People are able to have their teeth cleaned, a tooth filled, or have a tooth pulled by a very good dentist. People are given free reading and/or distance glasses. Some people, who did not know before, discover at our Health Fairs that they have diabetes, and learn what they now need to do…
(#2) From the time people come until they leave, they experience “the impressionable love of Jesus” from our Team and the people of the church we’re in – a love many have never experience before. People are asked, do you have any problems I can pray with you about? And all of the people receive a Gospel of John and an Invitation to return to this church. People are introduced to “the message of salvation” and there are always people who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. (#3) The Christians in the church learn how to talk to people about Jesus Christ, and they become “fishers of men.”

Also when a child receives a knitted hat to keep them warm or a child learns how to brush their teeth, they too experience the ‘love of Jesus’ and hear the message of salvation’.

If you would like to join us sometime and be a part of one of these Weekends of Health Fairs, we would encourage you to send us an email. (You do not have to speak Spanish.) You could even come and stay in Loreto for a few days. If you are not able to come, please keep us in your prayers, and if you’re able to help financially support this wonderful ministry, that too would be very much appreciated! So thank you for helping to make all of this happen. We praise the Lord for your partnership!
