Gerardo is from the state of Guerrero, Mexico. He was born in a small town called Igualita. When he was about 13 years old, he left home on an adventure to visit new places and states, which is how he arrived in Baja California. Gerardo arrived at a ranch that was called Campo Uno, which is now part of Rancho Los Pinos.
A couple of years later, in 1980, Gerardo moved to Nueva Odisea in northern Baja California. It was before moving that someone shared with him about Jesus Christ. When he arrived at Nueva Odisea, he went to church for the first time. That church was Iglesia La Hermosa. After a few years, a missionary named Keith McBride arrived from the United States. He spoke with the pastor of his church, Pastor Rafael Ventura Martinez, about his desire to build a clinic for the community and the surrounding migrant camps. However, the missionary didn’t have the ability to build, so he told the pastor that he needed help. The pastor asked if Gerardo would be willing to help, and Gerardo liked the idea, and helped pour the cement slabs for the floor. Later, groups from the U.S. started coming down to help with the construction, take the Word of God to the camps, and show christian films to the migrant workers. That is where God touched Gerardo’s heart about helping the people in his community and in the camps. However, he still needed Christ in his heart.
At the beginning of 2001, he decided to accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized on September 29, 2001. Gerardo asked God for a job that would allow him time for church and time to study at the Bible school. God answered that request. Mexican Medical Ministries gave him an opportunity to serve at Clinica La Esperanza, for which he is very grateful, first to God and also MMM.
As a missionary, Gerardo has learned a lot from the government doctors that come to serve once a week at the clinic, as well as from MMM. He has taken courses with the government doctors and is discovering what he enjoys. He appreciates that they have been willing to give everything, without expecting anything in return.
He would like to say thank you, and ask for your prayers that God would give him the strength and wisdom to keep serving.
